Description:  Train #54A pulls into New Baden, IL with NS 8000, 1017, & Penn Central heritage #1073 after meeting a hot Westbound intermodal train. Little did I know, about 70 miles East this train would end up hitting a tractor trailer (semi-truck) damaging the lead locomotive to the extent of trapping the crew.

Description:  Train #54A flies through Hoffman, IL. with NS 8000, 1017, & Penn Central heritage #1073 after meeting a hot Westbound intermodal train. Title:  NS 54A Eastbound
Description:  NS 8000 Was Leading NS 54A Eastbound with PC 1073 Heritage Unit on 11/17/2012 when it collided with a Haggard Oil Truck carrying a type of crude oil residue mixed with saltwater just west of Mt. Carmel, IL near the Friendsville Coal Mine in Maud. The driver survived and was airlifted to Evansville, IN. The train crew were ok. Originally NS planned to bring in a rescue locomotive out of Princeton, IN, however the battery was dead and the unit failed to start. After 5 hours they finally brought in a new crew who took the damaged train to Princeton, IN.
